SEPTEMBER 1 – SEPTEMBER 30
David Kidman was in Toronto for a 1 month residency in September. Sketches of his image producing machine will be posted soon.
“For Land/Slide, I will be using frontier technologies, recalibrated for the 21st century, in the construction of possible image producing machines.
The sequences used in the new inventions will concern the displacement of history from its original site, both physical and conceptual.
Implicit in the pièce will be reflections on the history of the train and the cinema, linked from Ciotat on, through the Kino trains to the modern disaster movie. Here in Markham, the Acadia train is also a repository of a political mythology. The sequences shown will tease the viewer, who looks in at them through a rethought form of the Nickelodeon, in which the loop will provide key elements to the cycle of the re-evaluation of local history.”
